Entry for "The Colony Ship Oengus Oc " - From The History of Space Flight, Exploration and Colonization, Volume X, 40th edition. Published by the Society for the Preservation of Space History, New Boston, Mars, 642 M.E.

"The colony ship Oengus Oc was built during the Edwardian Revival period, ca. 143 - 152 Modern Era (2189 - 2198 A.D.). It was both the first and last of its kind, wormhole gateway technology having become viable in 160 M.E. The Oengus Oc was intended to carry a group of artists and craftspeople to the colony forming at the time on Dal Riata and was designed and built largely by the would-be colonists.

"The Oengus Oc never made it to Dal Riata, however. All contact with the ship was lost without explanation a little over six years after launch. Theories for the ship's disappearance ranged from engine failure and subsequent inability to make course corrections to the mass psychotic breakdown of the crew.

"The story did not end there. In 232 M.E. the Society for the Preservation of Space History launched a widely publicized expedition to track the Oengus Oc" based on its last known position and course. Several weeks into the expedition, a message was received that the Oengus Oc had been found, abandoned and drifting in space. The message ended abruptly and the expedition was not heard from again. In 235 M.E. a sensor echo that looked somewhat like the Oengus Oc was recorded at an automated research outpost, but the brevity of the signal and lack of a follow up sighting indicates that the echo was probably noise. These events have spawned rumors that the Oengus Oc has become a modern-day Flying Dutchman, and much popular fiction has been written hypothesizing various fates for the ship."
