Introduction
These pages detail the making of the box "Private Stash". "Private Stash" will be in the benefit auction for the Welsh Terrier Club of America rescue organization, WTCARES, at the Mid-West Welsh Terrier Gathering in Louisville, KY on 11 September 2010. All proceeds from the auction go to WTCARES. For more information, please see the Mid-West Welsh terrier Gathering blog.
"Private Stash" is made of mahogany (box) and butternut ("dog biscuit"), with aniline dye to color the lid and black acrylic paint for the paw prints. The box and lid are finished with shellac and wax. The "biscuit" is finished with water-based polyurethane.
About 4" in diameter and about 6" tall, overall. The lid has a trick to opening it: you have to line up one end of the "dog biscuit" with the topmost pawprint.
My dogs compel me to note that the finish is not suitable for wet or damp items (like steak or prime rib or hot dog bits) but is safe for dry items (like jewelery or, oh, maybe dog biscuits). Your best bet would be to line it with a small plastic bag filled with dog biscuits.

Please note: Woodworking is an inherently dangerous activity. The non-woodworking techniques described here aren't all that safe, either. Sharp tools, powerful motors, big lumps of wood, chemicals, fumes, etc. can cause you serious bodily injury or even death. These pages are NOT meant as a substitute for instruction by a qualified teacher, just as an illustration of how I do certain things. I take no responsibility for any mishaps you may experience during a fit of inspiration. You've been warned.
